Highway to Implosion apprehends yesterday’s demolition of the world in eight photos. These demoralizing aspects not only affect strangers but also your loved ones as well as your own lifestyle. The world is collapsing among itself and upon you and me. As you gaze upon the photos I pray that they strike a chord in you. Implosion is not just about the Earth but also about the inhabitants such as you and me. The way we treat each other and perceive others can create experiences that last a life time.
Each photo has been captured in black and white film allowing yourself to interpret and add experiences from your own life. The usage of film is relevant to two aspects in this show. The first being the appreciation and passion I have for shooting with film while the second has a deeper meaning. The idea of film acts as a symbolic meaning. Just as film has been around for decades so have these qualities in the demise of the world. Because of all the time and money that goes behind the operation of each film photo one can develop a deeper connection than the simplicity of digital shots. This represents the obstacles we face in the world right now. Even though permanent solutions will take more time and money once those steps are taken the world will evolve into a vision of absolute beauty just like the film.

According to a national organization NADA at least 30 million people from all ages and genders suffer with an eating disorder and every 62 minutes someone dies as a result. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate out of any mental illness.
Mental illness is not something that can just vanish. However, we cannot become acceptable to this problem. This image shows the brokenness we can feel physically and emotionally and the destruction of self-image in one’s mind. |
Every day 28 individuals die from intoxicated driving, a total of 10,220 people in one year. Approximately 88,000 individuals die from excessive drinking in a year. It was reported that more than one in three deaths or serious injuries suffered by a child through neglect or abuse is linked to parental drinking. These statistics are crippling to the environment of students and children growing up in today’s society.
Both hands reach for the bottle because of the accessibility people have to alcohol. It is a gateway to clicks, friendships in high school and harm towards individuals. Drinking is not a negative aspect but the repercussion are aspects that if taken we will have to live with for the rest of our lives. |
The world is made beautiful through the diversity of individuals. However, it is the diversity that also creates problems and separations amongst beliefs and opinions. Eight percent or 268 years of the last 3,400 years have been of peace. It is estimated that at least 108 million people have been killed from wars in the twentieth century and about 150 million to 1 billion in human history.
The image is the representation of the extreme innovations to war over the years and the limits the human race can extend to. We have slaughtered generations all to achieve an upper hand in commerce, power and land. Instead of celebrating the diversity, the problems we could solve together, and the world we aspire too it is now only something we dream. |
Over 7 million Americans deal with drug abuse as well as costing our society close to $200 billion in healthcare. These drugs not only take the lives of users but their relationships with people and the lives of others. With the rising of pharm parties addiction, deaths and
destruction are rocketing. These pills sit inside of a candy dish because of the access every individual has to it. People begin to pop items left and right like pieces of candy. However, we need to be conscientious and catch people with their hand in the cookie jar. *Pharm parties – a gathering of individuals who pay to enter the party by placing pills into a bowl, later the bowl is passed around for consumption. |
There were an estimated 6.5 million deaths worldwide in air pollution alone in 2012. While approximately 1 billion individuals indulge in smoking cigarettes. These two leading factors are examples how we divulge into pleasure instead of responsibility.
The skeleton represents the decay of individuals when it comes to air pollution and smoking. As we breath in are bodies begin to change and the world starts to become fuzzier. Soon it will be something we don’t recognize. We need a few more Loraxs who speak for the trees to demolish this evil. |
A recent survey just pronounced that 92% of all Americans don’t achieve their goals and dreams. From the aspect of not having enough money to there was not enough time. As a society we are focused on convenience and get caught up in the routine of daily life.
The hammer on the clock demonstrates every aspect that hinders us from reaching our goals and dreams. Everyone has such a limited time and needs to pursue all aspects they desire. We are given one life and shouldn’t look back at the end of our life and say what if? |
The greatest murder of all time is pollution affecting over 100 million victims, more than any other global diseases like HIV or malaria. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year. The National Academy of Sciences estimates that about 14 billion pounds of garbage are dumped into the ocean.
The girl in this photo is immersed in the garbage signifying the numbness of pollution in Americas society. The world wasn’t just created for homo sapiens but every living and nonliving thing. We are the only subconscious creation and it is our duty to protect the Earth because in fact we are the ones making the mess. |
Tarnished
The only one time we are ever fully pure and innocent are the first few minutes we are born into this world. Our lifetime decisions, environments and people develop us into the human beings we are. As we walk through the years’ situations will end up sticking with us. I chose to display this concept in painting of the body. I wanted to show how the way people choose to treat each other really affects with our perception and once said will always. The power of words affects everyone and can be some of the leading causes towards violence. |
